UDON: THE BYE PRODUCT

LIGHTWELL 攜手 Melting Part 共同舉辦塗鴉藝術家 UDON 首場個展「THE BYE PRODUCT」: 透過展覽、表演、及講座探討潮流文化的根基－街頭以及社群。

“THE BYE PRODUCT” 是 UDON 的首次個人展覽，由 Melting Part 協同 LIGHTWELL 共同籌劃於中山區展出，旨在呈現 UDON 遊走街頭所製成的產品 (product)、副產品 (byproduct)，以及歷程的過往故事 (bygone) 。

如你所見，這是來自藝術家 UDON 的一次「主張」。在這個藉著「能見度」來解釋安全、隱私、身分、表徵、品牌、政治等價值的世界裡，視線成了人類體驗「生」與「存」的關鍵因素。被看見等同於證明了當下的存在，隱匿則意味與時間伴隨的消亡。

即便如此，UDON 仍走出了一條獨到之路。自 1999 年以來，UDON 便在臺灣虛幻、短暫、有時危險的塗鴉世界中樹立了永久的聲望。他之於臺北的街景，如空氣之於遼闊的田野，或寂靜之於空蕩的房間——絕對必要、無處不在，卻又無跡可尋。

從街頭簽名到大作繪畫、書法到人物設計等等⋯ 儘管積累了無數的作品，倘若要在這門關乎空間與時間的藝術型式中討論 UDON 的本質，或許可以從他的原創分身看出端倪：鬼面 (Ghostface) 。

什麼是鬼面？一隻外星人？不安的魂魄？抑或是來自彼岸的天使？自始他的真面目便保持不明，但可以確定的是：這個身穿連帽衫，並始終掛著困惑表情的存在，會靜靜地從不同的時空凝視和觀察人類的世界；而他也正是本次展覽 “THE BYE PRODUCT” 所圍繞的主要視覺角色。

▎藝術家介紹

UDON

UDON 是一位藝術家、街頭傳奇，也是塗鴉這個美麗而瞬息萬變的遊戲的先驅者。扎根於台北，是 OIT（一個享譽國際的街頭文化組織）的創始人之一，也是全球塗鴉文化的重要推手。

擁有亞洲和美國血統的 UDON，從舊金山來到台灣，尋找關於自己的根和文化，台灣給予他相當豐富的靈感，反映他自身的文化認同和追求。從 1999 年到現在，25 年的塗鴉經歷，從街頭再到空間，對 UDON 來說，街頭文化意味著與社區和文化的相連。這不是一種可以穿上的服裝或可以「學習」的東西，而是一種必須用所有感官沉浸其中的。更進一步地說，塗鴉是一個媒介，帶領他到達從未想過可以去的地方，代表的是對於一個難以解釋的紀律、守則無盡的奉獻。
