LIGHTWELL and Melting Part presents UDON's debut solo exhibition “THE BYE PRODUCT”: Exploring street culture through exhibition, performances, and dialogues
“THE BYE PRODUCT” is UDON’s first exhibition in a contemporary art space. Produced by Melting Part in partnership with LIGHTWELL, the gallery will run for two months in Zhongshan, where, for the very first time, the products, byproducts, and bygones of his journey will be shared with the public.
Throughout the two month exhibition, Melting Part will host a series of intimate sessions where the community and audience will be able to share, discuss, and experience his creativity more in depth. In addition, a select panel of guest artists will be featured to share how OIT (a Taiwan based brand UDON has been instrumental in) influenced themselves and the culture.
You see it. This is the fundamental statement posed by the artist UDON. In a world where visibility determines safety, secrecy, identity, representation, personal branding, politics, etc… what we do and don’t see is key to our experience, and survival. To be seen is to exist in the present. To be invisible is to disappear in time.
Despite this… UDON has developed a unique trail. Since 1999, he’s left international traces, byproducts, and a prestige of permanence in the otherwise illusory, transient and dangerous world of graffiti. He is to Taipei’s street scene what air is to an open field, or silence to an empty room— essential, virtually everywhere, yet nowhere to be found.
Having accumulated works around the world that range from raw tags to large scale paintings, calligraphy to characters, perhaps the true spirit of UDON’s shapeshifting artistry lies in a character with which UDON has become synonymous. Ghostface.
What is Ghostface? An alien? A restless spirit? An angel from the other side? All we know is that he often dons a hoodie and a curious expression on his face, as if observing and commenting on our human world from a different time and space.

Co-Organizer Melting Part
UDON is an artist, a street legend, and a pioneer of the ever-evolving game of graffiti. Based in Taipei by way of San Francisco, he is one of the founders of OIT (a renowned international street culture organization) and a key figure in global graffiti culture. With Asian and American heritage, UDON came to Taiwan in search of his cultural roots. Since then, his work and personal journey has come to reflect Taiwan’s rich and inspiring landscape.
From 1999 to the present, UDON has maintained a flexible and dynamic presence within the world of Graffiti, transitioning between street-level canvases to indoor contemporary spaces. For UDON, street culture means being connected to the community and culture. UDON maintains that “the culture” is not to be learned as a subject or worn as a costume, but rather, a presence that one must immerse yourself in with all your senses.
FOR UDON, this year marks the 25th year of being immersed. Though much of the code of Graffiti remains shrouded in mystery, one thing is for sure–it’s a code that continues to lead UDON to new and exciting heights in the world of art and culture.
